S-sumimasen!!!

  • Jul. 26th, 2008 at 5:32 AM
I really love you guys. I'm still kind of .___. over the whole thing about cosplay, but, I realized, rereading it, that it sounded an awful lot like THIS:

S-SUMIMASEN!!! I'M IN THE WAY, AREN'T I? I'M SORRY, I'LL DO WHATEVER I CAN TO GET OUT OF YOUR WAY, IT'S ALL MY FAULT, I'M SORRY I WAS STANDING HERE, I'M SORRY I WAS IN THIS LIVEJOURNAL, I'M SORRY I WAS BORN!!!
SUMIMASSEEEEN!!!

OH SAYONARA ZETSUBOU SENSEI, YOU SAVED MY LIFE.

Here. Have a consolation meme!

So, nine Elves and one Human walk into a meme... )

...uh...
I should go to bed... >_>

Goodnight! ...morning...

Noriben

  • Jul. 25th, 2008 at 11:47 PM

Contents: Barley noriben, carrot tamagoyaki, garlicky stir-fried shrimps, steamed broccoli with sesame dressing, and chicken wings braised in oyster sauce

Noriben is a prototypical bento that is considered very "Japanese." In its simplest form, it consists of alternating layers of rice and seaweed seasoned with soy sauce. Here I had three layers in total: just spread cooked rice out in your bento box, cover it with roasted seaweed, and moisten the seaweed with a few dashes of soy sauce. Repeat the above steps twice.

A noriben is very easy to make, but whether you like it or not depends obviously on how much you like seaweed.

1: I am going

2: Schedule for costumes is thus:

Thursday, assuming that I get there for Thursday (there's a chance now that I won't, due to two entries back), I just plan on showing up. I *might* throw on Balthier or Bard or Caesar just for kicks, but I'm not really planning on going all out.

Friday: Main Character from Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne. Thanks to Andrea (of Philadelphia), I will have the paints that I need to do the costume, and I already have the shoes and the pants. Hair dye was procured today.

Saturday, daytime: Akihiko Sanada, from Persona 3. I'll be wearing his school uniform during this time.

Saturday, after dinner: I'll be returning to the hotel and changing into Akihiko's dark hour outfit.

Sunday: Either Akihiko again, or else Caesar.

Friday and Saturday are subject to change based on weather and (more importantly) the Persona3 photoshoot

3: Costume progress:

Nocturne: All parts and materials have been procured and are either en route or in hand.
Paintbrushes were gotten today.

Akihiko: I have the shirt, slacks, shoes, hair spray, gauze, Evoker, belt, bolo ribbon, boxing gloves, blazer, and socks. I raided an old pair of suspenders for the clips on the sleeve-garters. The vest is about 70% done, I just need to finish the black trim and the gold lettering (guess what I'm doing tomorrow?), as well as the button holes (the buttons are attached already).

Still need to procure or make the gloves, and the armband. Oh, and finish the holster and get the ribbon for the sleeve-garters.

It sounds like a lot, but the trim should only take a couple of hours, and the button holes a half hour, tops. The gloves (if I make them) and the holster are going to be the worst, and the Holster only because it involves shoving a needle through fake leather (which will probably be no worse than shoving it through canvas was when I did Ventarbre)

"EEEeeet's a small world, after all..."

I swore I'd never get this song stuck in my head again, after being traumatized by it when I was about 6.

Now I've no choice.

I posted about running into Krista last week, right? Right.

So, this past weekend I was in NYC for a couple of days. While Mith was at her interview, I was chatting it up with the girl behind the counter at the music shop.

"Wait, you went to Delaware. Do you know Brian Stellatto?"

(Of course I do. He was the drum major at UD).

It doesn't end there, though.

A couple of weeks ago, I was recced to a shop in Philly as a part of my quest for the body paint I'm going to need in order to cosplay as the main character from Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne.

So, on my way back down, I took a swing through Philadelphia to take a peek at this shop.

For starters, I was *not* expecting this shop to be what it was. Passionate is, in fact, a sexual shop. So we can add this onto the list of places that you would never expect to find a Jerry, but have.

Now, it's a sign of just how much I've changed that I really didn't have a problem with being in this store. A few years ago, I would have been self-conscious, nervous, and probably would have fled the scene very quickly, had I even had the cajones to walk into the shop in the first place. Now, no sweat.

The woman behind the counter looks at me kind of oddly as I come up to ask after laytex body paint. And I get asked...

"You look familiar, Do you know Marci Carper?"

*Cue extended conversation*

She recognized me from photographs, having never met me in person.

And then...
Last night at work, who do I run into but one of my fellow Boy Scouts. From TEN YEARS AGO.

I blame three of these on Delaware. The one in Philly....I guess this is going to happen to me wherever I go these days, isn't it?

INTERVIEW!

  • Jul. 25th, 2008 at 11:28 PM
I've another interview!

Monday, Noon, Strausburg. Public Defender work!

I'm not sure I'm going to take their directions literally ("It's okay to wear jeans..."), as jeans are uncomfortable in this weather, but it's good to know that no suit is required.

Follow Up to the Batman Bento

  • Jul. 25th, 2008 at 5:42 PM
Inspired by the success of my Batman bento, I decided it needed a follow-up:

Let's put a smile on your face )

Hope you enjoy!

finally it's friday -_-

I didn't make obento for myself today either. There's a lot of random food around here since it's just about time to go shopping, but there's not really enough to make two people a whole lunch without taking up way too much of my time. I'll probably just have some miso and leftovers. :)

I spent last night working on earlier meetup photos on the new laptop (Tifa), only to discover I had done them over on Last Gasp and even uploaded them to Photobucket. *sigh* Oh well. I need to retrieve some other meetup photos and work on them, plus others, before starting up on the SF photos.

Have you seen the new soon-to-be-released Puki circus? I wish they'd do a grumpy/serious Pukisha faceplate so Sourpuss would look right. Then I'd order the Gravi kitties. It looks like their sculpters are working overtime so my wish might come true eventually.

Meetup in McKinney tomorrow, at a tea room. I need to go by my mother's house and bring everyone home tonight so I can decide who's going tomorrow. The Yo-sized boys have been requested again. Talis and Nigel have missed each other so I know they'll be happy to be together again. I don't know if I should take someone large or not. I think Chikara will go, so he can meet Thomas.

I've already met Dreamz's new Bambicrony and YoSD girl - [info]mmc_ningyouai had them for faceup work when we took the trip photos over for her and [info]fullmetalsqishy to see Wednesday night. The girls were wearing [info]greybill_girls sundresses, but no panties - poor things! They need panties or bloomers or something for those outfits. We also met [info]mmc_ningyouai's new boy, Ryu. [info]fullmetalsqishy made yummy bread, too!

I pulled my back out lifting the doll suitcase up the stairs when we got home so I'm in a bit of pain, however, in general I'm feeling okay. I even feel rested in my brain, even though I'm really sleepy. The trip was a good thing, even with all the problems with the drugs, breaking one of my wrist mala so the beads scattered, having to pop steroids to keep the pain down, not being able to eat at Tommasso's because they don't serve lunch, etc.

The good things include meeting new people, seeing old friends, admiring gorgeous dolls, having a blast at yaoifest, winning a doll and clothes for him, going to Japantown twice, feeling VERY comfortable on the mass transit system and down at Pier 39, eating lots of great food, especially at the little neighborhood holes-in-the-wall, getting home with $200 still in my pocket, etc.

Today is the first day of Ai-Kon 2008! I'm going with Emma again this year. Fleur and I are going to be dressing alike for today.

and now, the news

  • Jul. 25th, 2008 at 10:45 AM
work is kicking my ass.  it will get better in September.  until then, I am a work machine who is sneaking life into the cracks, except for Mr. Archer who is the center of my universe.  it's a good thing I have an understanding boyfiance.  remember that quote about love being a universe of beaches?  I feel so loved I am on Tatooine.  Seriously.  Or maybe Arakis*.  The spice is the life.

that's pretty much it.

* yes, I probably spelled that wrong.  too busy to look it up. yow.
